The Waldorf Astoria Deer Valley Resort and Residences will open in 2028, enhancing Utah's luxury hospitality landscape.
In a significant development for Utah's luxury hospitality sector, the New York-based Extell Development Company has partnered with Hilton to unveil the Waldorf Astoria Deer Valley Resort and Residences, set to debut in 2028. This ski-in, ski-out resort will be strategically located in Deer Valley's East Village, adjacent to the newly established Green Monster ski run, which is touted as the longest run in the area. The announcement underscores the growing appeal of Deer Valley as a premier destination for luxury travelers and outdoor enthusiasts alike.
The Waldorf Astoria Deer Valley will feature a total of 132 keys, which include 105 branded residences ranging from one to six bedrooms. These residences will vary in size from 1,099 to 5,155 square feet and will be spread across two towers. The design of the property promises to combine both luxury and functionality, with 56 hotel residences situated above the hotel's main facilities and an additional 49 private residences in a standalone tower dedicated to Waldorf Astoria Residences Deer Valley.
The architectural vision for the resort is being spearheaded by the esteemed firm Kohn Pedersen Fox, known for their innovative designs in urban landscapes. Interior design will be curated by AvroKO, a hospitality design firm recognized for their sophisticated and inviting spaces. "Deer Valley East Village represents a culmination of world-class luxury partners committed to delivering exceptional ski experiences. The Waldorf Astoria resort and residences will enhance that vision," stated Gary Barnett, founder and chairman of Extell Development Company. Barnett expressed confidence that the development will position Deer Valley as the crown jewel among North American ski resorts, particularly with globally recognized brands like Waldorf Astoria and Four Seasons joining the community.
Kara Randall, Vice President of North America Luxury and Mixed-Use Development at Hilton, noted that the signing of this resort marks a pivotal moment in Hilton's expanding luxury portfolio across the Americas. She emphasized the significance of the Waldorf Astoria Deer Valley Resort and Residences, stating, "This ski-in, ski-out resort will complement the upcoming Canopy by Hilton at Deer Valley, expected to open this year, further enriching Hilton's offerings in Utah, where we already have more than 70 properties welcoming travelers."
Dino Michael, Senior Vice President and Global Category Head for Hilton Luxury Brands, highlighted the emotional connection that mountain destinations create for guests. He remarked, "Waldorf Astoria Deer Valley allows us to interpret that through the lens of one of the world’s most iconic luxury brands. This is a place designed around arrival, belonging, and connection to the landscape, where ski-in, ski-out access is paired with deeply considered design and service. It is a luxury that feels natural, immersive, and enduring."
The resort will feature an array of on-site amenities tailored for both hotel guests and residents. A 15,000 square foot state-of-the-art spa will offer treatment rooms, thermal features, and a snow room, while fitness centers and ski valet and concierge services will enhance the overall guest experience. For families, the property will include a kid’s room, a resident’s pool deck with views of the Green Monster, an indoor lap pool, and an outdoor pool and hot tub cantilevered over the ski run below.
Dining options will be plentiful, with multiple restaurants, bars, and lounges, including the Waldorf Astoria’s signature Peacock Alley. The property will also provide 11,300 square feet of meeting and event space, which includes a 5,200 square foot ballroom, resident lounges, and a demonstration kitchen, making it an attractive venue for corporate retreats and special events.
Construction on the Waldorf Astoria Deer Valley Resort and Residences is anticipated to commence in May 2025, paving the way for an exciting new chapter in luxury accommodations in Utah. This development will not only enhance the landscape of Deer Valley but also contribute significantly to the local economy by creating jobs and attracting tourists.
The Waldorf Astoria Deer Valley will mark the second Hilton property announced for the East Village development, following the upcoming Canopy by Hilton hotel, which will overlook the Jordanelle Reservoir and Deer Valley Resort. This hotel is expected to open this summer and will also provide ski access via the Jordanelle Express Gondola. Both Hilton properties are set to participate in Hilton Honors, the loyalty program for Hilton's 26 brands, offering guests a chance to earn and redeem points during their stays.
