Flinders was reportedly camping and fishing at the Lucerne Marina prior to the accident. Concern arose when he failed to return home as scheduled and could not be contacted, leading to reports of him being missing on Thursday. The Sheriff's Office initiated a search effort that involved collaboration with the U.S. Forest Service.
Search operations continued overnight and extended into Friday morning. Authorities were able to locate Flinders’ body along with his capsized boat in the Jug Hollow area of the reservoir.
