PARK CITY, Utah — On Saturday, December 20, volunteers gathered at Park City High School to assemble and deliver approximately 1,000 holiday meals to families in Summit and Wasatch counties. Colton Elliott, the Public Information Officer for the Park City School District, reported that the event coincided with the first day of winter break and saw participation from students, families, alumni, and community members. In less than an hour, volunteers formed assembly lines to fill, seal, and stack boxes for households receiving meals through the Operation Hope program. This event, now in its ninth year, reflects the community's commitment to support those in need, particularly as demand and food costs have increased. James Agnew, a key figure in launching the program, emphasized that the deliveries provide more than just food. He noted that recipients often express overwhelming gratitude, highlighting the importance of human connection in these efforts. Meals were distributed through various channels, including Operation Hope, senior centers, food banks, and partner organizations serving the local community. The event's success relied on extensive participation from the community. Volunteers included members from the Especially for Athletes club at Park City High School, which coordinated logistics and volunteer efforts alongside staff and community partners. Many alumni returned to assist, continuing a tradition that began with small groups. Meals were also delivered to members of the Goshute Indian Tribe, with volunteers traveling several hours for these deliveries. As the event concluded and the commons area emptied, Agnew reiterated the significance of community involvement, stating, "It really does take a village. The students, families, donors, volunteers, and community partners all play a crucial role in this effort."
