This holiday season, students at Park City High School have made a significant impact by collecting approximately 60,000 pounds of non-perishable food and essential items. The initiative was spearheaded by members of the school's National Honor Society, showcasing a collaborative effort to support the local community. For the first three weeks of December, students engaged in friendly competition to gather the most donations for the Christian Center of Park City. They organized collection drives outside local grocery stores and collaborated with the school district to set up donation bins in nearby elementary and middle schools. Additionally, they accepted financial contributions through a Venmo account managed by the National Honor Society. On December 19, all collected items were organized and prepared for delivery to the Christian Center. Jaime Mira, the deputy director of food security at the center, expressed gratitude for the students’ efforts, noting that the donations would provide meals for families for up to six months. The demand for food assistance has increased this year, particularly following the suspension of SNAP payments, which has led to more families seeking support from the Christian Center. Mira highlighted the community's generosity, stating that despite the growing need, the contributions from local residents have also increased. Furthermore, the lack of snowfall this season has affected seasonal employment, further emphasizing the necessity for food assistance. The Christian Center welcomes donations of non-perishable food, household items, or financial contributions year-round. Individuals interested in helping can drop off items at 1283 Deer Valley Drive or visit the center's website to make monetary donations.
