Park City residents interested in a midterm appointment to the Park City Council can now apply, as the city seeks to fill the vacancy left by Mayor-elect Ryan Dickey. Unlike traditional elections, this process does not involve a voting campaign, but candidates are required to submit a basic platform as part of their application. The application form includes questions aimed at understanding the candidates' perspectives on key community issues. Among the 16 questions, applicants are asked to identify their three top issues, providing insights into their priorities. This includes candidates who previously ran for the mayor's office or City Council seats in 2025, as well as new applicants who must articulate their three main focus areas should they be selected for the role. Each response is limited to 200 words. Additionally, the application solicits opinions on what Park City does well, areas for improvement, and a unique idea for the city that hasn't been previously suggested. These responses will help the City Council gauge the candidates' vision for the community. Two critical questions revolve around the role of municipal government and the specific responsibilities of the City Council. Notably, the Council does not oversee daily staff operations, a responsibility that falls to the city manager, whose position is currently being filled. Applications must be submitted by 5 p.m. on January 5. Eligibility criteria require applicants to be residents of Park City, registered voters within city limits, and to have lived in the area for a minimum of 12 consecutive months. Other disqualifications include being declared mentally incompetent or having felony convictions. Applications can be completed online at parkcity.gov, with a direct link available for convenience. The midterm appointment process follows a recent City Council election that attracted numerous candidates, suggesting strong community interest. The term for the appointed member will conclude in early 2028, with a subsequent election in 2027 necessary to secure a full term.
