On Friday, a man in a pickup truck engaged police in a high-speed chase across the Salt Lake Valley, culminating near the Salt Lake City International Airport. Officers with the Salt Lake City Police Department initially spotted the truck parked in the middle of the road. When an officer approached, the driver suddenly fled the scene, prompting a police pursuit. The pursuit intensified when police located the truck parked at another site in the city. As officers approached, the driver once again attempted to evade capture. The chase escalated when officers attempted to stop the truck at a 7-Eleven in the Glendale neighborhood using spike strips. Despite sustaining flat tires from the spikes, the driver aggressively rammed a police vehicle, putting an officer on foot at risk. After causing damage and endangering lives, the driver continued to flee, leading police on a chase that spanned Interstate 201 and I-80, moving through South Salt Lake and into West Valley City, before ultimately returning to downtown Salt Lake City. Footage shared by local resident Ashanti Lee showcased the truck weaving through traffic, with police vehicles and a helicopter in pursuit. Lee noted that the truck appeared to have at least one flat tire during the chase. Due to light traffic conditions, police decided to let the chase continue, ultimately bringing it to an end near the airport. The unidentified driver was taken into custody without further incident. The aftermath of the chase caused significant traffic delays on I-80 towards the airport for over 30 minutes, but the area has since been cleared. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the entire pursuit and arrest.
