A 21-year-old man, Eric Sotelo, was arrested by Hurricane police following an incident where he allegedly struck his girlfriend's father with a vehicle during a domestic dispute. The arrest occurred on Thursday, and Sotelo is facing charges of aggravated assault and property damage. According to court documents, law enforcement was dispatched to the vicinity of 600 South 60 East on Christmas day after receiving reports of a man being hit by a car. Upon arrival, officers found Sotelo at the scene with his hands raised, where he reportedly confessed to the act of hitting the victim with his vehicle. Sotelo explained that prior to the incident, he had taken his girlfriend, who is 11 weeks pregnant, to the hospital because she was feeling unwell. After their hospital visit, she asked to be driven home. Once they arrived, a verbal dispute erupted, although the specific details of the argument were not disclosed. During the confrontation, Sotelo stated that his girlfriend exited the car and began yelling at him, which prompted her father to come outside and engage in a heated argument. Investigators noted that Sotelo claimed the father issued a threat to punch him, to which Sotelo allegedly encouraged him to do so. After the father allegedly struck him, Sotelo admitted to reversing the vehicle before shifting into drive and intentionally ramming the victim. Following this attempted assault, police reported that Sotelo collided with another vehicle parked in the driveway of the residence. The victim was subsequently transported to the hospital, where it was determined he had sustained a broken ankle, which will necessitate surgical intervention. Eric Sotelo is currently being held without bail as the investigation continues.
