In a remarkable display of skill, Parkite aerialists Kaila Kuhn, Connor Curran, and U.S. teammate Ashton Salwan competed in the World Cup mixed team aerials event held in Secret Garden, China. Although they were not the primary selections for Team USA, the trio finished in third place, demonstrating their capability against elite international aerialists. Team China’s A and B teams secured the first and second positions, respectively, while Team USA’s A team, consisting of Chris Lillis, Quinn Dehlinger, and Winter Vinecki, placed fifth. Connor Curran emerged as the top scorer for Team USA, achieving a full double full full (Daddy) jump that garnered a score of 113.28. Ashton Salwan executed the same jump but received a score of 68.14. Kaila Kuhn contributed with a full full jump, scoring 85.99. These performances are significant as they will impact Olympic selections, where the top three jumps from World Cup events are considered for representing Team USA in Milan. Curran’s jump score ranks as the fourth highest across two World Cups this season. The recent event's results also come with the announcement of the cancellation of the Deer Valley World Cup, reducing the number of Olympic qualifying events. The Deer Valley aerials will now be part of the mixed team aerials competition at the Lake Placid World Cup on January 12, which will serve as the final qualifying events before the Olympics. Ashton Salwan expressed his excitement about achieving a top-10 result for the first time, finishing 10th in the men’s aerials competition on Saturday. Dehlinger finished as the highest-placing American in fifth, while the women's competition saw Kuhn as the top American finisher. The event was ultimately won by China’s Kong Fanyu, with Chen Meiting and Xu Mengtao finishing second and third, respectively. Salwan plans to take the upcoming weeks to relax and train, as he has not been home in four months due to rigorous training with Team USA. He aims to refine his jumps for the upcoming World Cup competitions, which will resume with events in Lac-Beauport, Canada, on January 6 and 7. The competitions will be accessible via live stream on Ski and Snowboard Live.
