SEMMERING, Austria — Mary and Elizabeth Bocock, members of the U.S. Ski Team's women's alpine tech team, are set to compete in two giant slalom and slalom races this weekend. Both sisters previously represented Salt Lake City's Romark Ski Academy Team, which trains at the Utah Olympic Park. Before joining Romark, they were part of Snowbird's race program. Austria holds special significance for the Bocock sisters, as it marks a key location in their skiing journey. During the 2023-24 season, Mary made her World Cup debut and both sisters participated in the season opener in Soelden. Elizabeth, aged 20, mentioned that Mary has greatly influenced her skiing career. Earlier this month, 22-year-old Mary secured her first World Cup points by finishing 18th in a race in Switzerland. "I’m very happy I got to race," Mary stated. "It felt good in some parts but it definitely wasn’t perfect. I think it really speaks to how important it is to just send it." Elizabeth has also been making strides in her skiing career. She recently earned World Cup points in various races and participated in the World Junior Championships, where she won a bronze medal. However, she faced challenges in a race at Copper Mountain, Colorado, where she ended up with a Did Not Finish (DNF) result. After this weekend's races in Austria, the Bocock sisters will travel to Kranjska Gora, Slovenia, for two additional tech races just after the New Year. With both athletes showcasing their skills on an international stage, they continue to represent Utah's skiing community and strive for success in the competitive world of alpine skiing.
