Salt Lake Climbers Alliance Maintains 1,232 Bolts in Successful Year
The Salt Lake Climbers Alliance maintained 1,232 bolts this year, enhancing climbing safety in the Wasatch Mountains.

WASATCH MOUNTAIN RANGE, Utah — The Salt Lake Climbers Alliance (SLCA) has concluded another productive year of anchor maintenance, successfully maintaining 1,232 bolts across various climbing routes. This year's efforts included visiting 208 climbing routes, logging 1,600 field hours, and tending to 27 crags throughout the region. The SLCA is dedicated to ensuring the safety and reliability of climbing equipment in the Wasatch Mountains, contributing to a robust climbing culture.
The work performed by the SLCA involved a dedicated team of skilled maintenance staff who traveled to both well-known and lesser-known climbing locations. Some of the key areas serviced include Big Cottonwood Canyon, Little Cottonwood Canyon, American Fork Canyon, Maple Canyon, South Willow Canyon, Blacksmith Fork, Rock Canyon, and Indian Creek. The maintenance staff includes professionals such as Eric Salmi, Alex Lemieu, Chris Brown, Matt Clark, Davan Howell, and Drew Broadhead, who collectively ensure the integrity of climbing anchors.
In addition to maintenance activities, the SLCA also plays a vital role in promoting the sport of climbing at various events, including World Cups in Salt Lake City. Their commitment to stewardship in the climbing community has been recognized with the 2025 Stewardship Award from the Office of Outdoor Recreation.
The SLCA encourages climbers to report any observations of aging anchors through an online interface, fostering a community-driven approach to climbing safety. The organization is a collaboration of local climbers from Park City, Salt Lake, and surrounding areas, as well as climbing enthusiasts from around the globe, all drawn to the unique climbing opportunities available in Utah.
