The Masters Ski Program at Park City Mountain is now in its 35th season, continuing to attract adult skiers aged 18 and older. Designed for those who wish to enhance their skiing techniques, the program operates four days a week from early December through late March. Participants engage in focused ski improvement exercises, along with gate training, and the program accommodates various schedules, allowing skiers to attend half days or drop in as they can. Many of the participants are experienced skiers, often retired or semi-retired, who have the availability to commit to the weekday training. Dave Evans, an 85-year-old participant since 2007, plans to ski with the group at least three days a week this season and participates in races at various resorts. The program offers both competitive and non-competitive pathways, with some skiers opting to race while others focus solely on personal improvement. Don Sears, the program director, emphasizes the importance of technique and unlearning old habits from past skiing experiences. The training sessions involve small groups, allowing for personalized feedback and tailored coaching. The second week of the program in mid-December saw nearly 20 skiers participating in drills aimed at improving stance and balance. Participants engage in various drills, such as maintaining proper forward pressure and executing connected turns. The community aspect of the program is also vital, as skiers form relationships and support each other through their learning journeys. Many participants appreciate the flexible structure, which accommodates different skill levels and commitments. The Masters Ski Program fosters a welcoming environment, encouraging skiers to enhance their skills while enjoying the camaraderie of fellow enthusiasts.
