Mikaela Shiffrin Competes in World Cup Races in Austria This Weekend

Mikaela Shiffrin, regarded as one of the greatest skiers, will lead the U.S. tech skiing team at the World Cup in Semmering, Austria this weekend. The event features a giant slalom race scheduled for Saturday followed by a slalom race on Sunday. Fans can live stream both races on Peacock.
In local high school sports, the Miners boys' wrestling team achieved a narrow victory over Brighton with a score of 39-36 last Thursday. The event also celebrated the program's alumni, bringing their record to 5-1 for the season. Notably, Miners junior Jackson Bevan defeated defending state champion Jarom Gappmayor from Brighton with a score of 3-0. Other Miners who secured wins by pin include Tidus Schuster, Colin Spencer, Saul Dolores, Jackson Richey, Hudson Underhill, and Nikola Djunic. The team will take a break for the holidays and will return for the Best of the West tournament in Tooele on January 2-3.
In basketball, the Wasatch boys' team registered a victory against Moapa Valley, winning 53-39, which brought their season record to 11-1. They are set to play against Sky View next Friday at 7 p.m. on the road. The Wasatch girls' basketball team faced a loss against Bountiful, falling 56-46. Mahala Speredon and Filifaiesea Liava’a each scored 11 points in the game, bringing their record to 10-2. The girls will next face Timpview on January 6 at 7 p.m. on the road.
South Summit High's boys' basketball team lost to North Sanpete with a score of 59-52, with Joey Harris leading his team with 13 points. The Wildcats now hold a record of 7-4 and will compete against Valley on Monday. The girls' basketball team lost 67-29 to Beaver, with Ruby Clegg scoring 16 points, five rebounds, and nine steals. They are currently 2-10 and have a matchup against Ogden next Friday at home.
Finally, the North Summit boys' basketball team secured a victory against Rich, winning 70-47. Kestin Richins and Tayton Pace each scored 16 points. The Braves are now 9-2 and will face Millard on January 7. The girls' team, however, fell to Enterprise 53-50 despite Ellie Stephens' strong performance of 20 points, 12 rebounds, and five assists. They are 7-5 and will compete against Grantsville on Tuesday at 5 p.m. on the road.
