A former manager of Heber Valley Hospital was arrested by the Lehi Police Department on Monday for theft and burglary, just a month before he was set to appear in court for previous similar charges. Jason Brauner, 47, has not been formally charged in Utah County as of Thursday afternoon, but a judge ordered him held without bail. According to the affidavit of probable cause, Brauner allegedly stole around $25,000 worth of medical supplies, including skin grafts and other medical tools, from Holy Cross Hospital - Mountain Point in Lehi. Brauner previously worked at Heber Valley Hospital and had been arrested in 2023 for using his access badge to steal from the hospital and its employees, leading to a conviction in August. The ongoing investigation by Lehi police suggests that Brauner's actions are part of a larger pattern of thefts. In the latest incident, surveillance footage reportedly captured Brauner, dressed in hospital scrubs and a surgical mask, entering the hospital around 12:30 a.m. on November 25 and leaving shortly after with several items. Initially, hospital staff estimated the stolen equipment to be worth about $10,000, but a full inventory later revealed the total to be closer to $25,000, including over $13,000 in bone grafts. Police were dispatched to the hospital the same day, and their investigation indicated that Brauner entered the facility without authorization and accessed restricted areas. It was reported that several secured doors had been intentionally taped open, although it remains unclear whether Brauner was responsible for this or if hospital staff were involved. Further investigation revealed that Brauner had a history of similar thefts at various hospitals, including incidents in West Jordan and California, where he allegedly stole approximately $100,000 worth of medical supplies. He is currently on probation in California for those offenses. In his residence, police discovered handwritten medical inventory sheets and contact information for buyers of medical supplies. Brauner's wife confirmed he had been selling bone and skin grafts to companies across the country. Brauner had previously served as the environmental services manager at Heber Valley Hospital, where he was also implicated in thefts. In earlier cases, employees reported stolen cash and credit cards from lockers, and security footage linked Brauner to these thefts. He was ultimately convicted of multiple charges, including theft exceeding $5,000, with a restitution hearing scheduled for January 2026.
