Avalanche Secures 1-0 Victory Over Mammoth for 6th Consecutive Win
The Colorado Avalanche defeated the Utah Mammoth 1-0, marking their sixth straight win.

DENVER (AP) - Scott Wedgewood recorded 32 saves in a stellar performance, achieving his second shutout of the season as the NHL-leading Colorado Avalanche triumphed over the Utah Mammoth 1-0 on Tuesday night. Wedgewood's shutout marked his 10th career clean sheet and contributed to Colorado's impressive home winning streak, now at 13 games. The Avalanche have won six consecutive games overall and have eight victories in their last nine outings as they approach the holiday break.
With this win, Colorado has amassed 61 points, ranking second in the NHL after 36 games, just behind the 1929-30 Boston Bruins, who had 63 points at the same point in the season. Samuel Girard netted the only goal for the Avalanche (27-2-7), who continue to be unbeaten in regulation at home with a record of 15-0-2. The team has not suffered a loss on their home ice since the Carolina Hurricanes edged them out in a shootout on October 23.
Utah's Vitek Vanecek made 25 saves during the game, attempting to keep his team competitive. The Mammoth had recently claimed victory in two of their last three matches. However, their starting goaltender, Karel Vejmelka, was a late scratch due to an upper-body injury, prompting Utah to sign Colten McIntyre to an amateur-tryout agreement as Vanecek’s backup for the night.
Vanecek showcased his skills against the Avalanche, the NHL's leading scoring team, which had averaged 4.6 goals in their previous five games leading up to this matchup. Girard managed to score the decisive goal by stealing the puck from Clayton Keller in the neutral zone, skating ahead, and beating Vanecek with a backhand shot at 7:57 into the second period.
Wedgewood's performance was crucial in keeping the Mammoth scoreless, as he made significant saves, including a blocker stop on Daniil But and a glove save on Keller after a review. Despite increased pressure from Utah in the third period, including pulling Vanecek for an extra skater with 2:03 remaining, they were unable to find the equalizer.
Next up, the Mammoth will have a break until Monday night when they host the Nashville Predators. The Avalanche will be traveling to face the Vegas Golden Knights on Saturday night.
