Ashley Farquharson, a 26-year-old luger from Park City, is gaining momentum ahead of the upcoming Olympics. She secured her first World Cup medal of the season by finishing third in the women’s singles competition at the Park City World Cup last Saturday. Following this achievement, Farquharson earned a silver medal in the women’s singles race at the Lake Placid World Cup on Friday, showcasing her impressive skills as the Olympic Games approach. Farquharson's recent performances have solidified her nomination for the U.S. Luge Team for the second time. With the World Cup season progressing, she aims to strengthen her case for an official Olympic bid. The next event is scheduled from December 30 to January 4, 2026, in Sigulda, Latvia, with four more World Cups lined up before the Milan Games. In her latest race, Farquharson clocked a total time of 1:28.956, finishing just 0.132 seconds behind the leader, Germany’s Julia Taubitz. Her teammate, Summer Britcher, who won the Park City women’s singles title, secured third place at the Lake Placid event. Conditions at Lake Placid proved challenging, as the track is known for its difficult turns and cold temperatures. The adverse weather led to the postponement of the men's and women’s doubles races until the following day. Team USA benefited from their home track advantage, as both American and international competitors noted the exceptional crowd support in Park City. The atmosphere was highlighted by Britcher, who described the racing experience as “magical.” In the men's doubles, Team USA's Marcus Mueller and Ansel Haugsjaa finished first with a time of 1:27.509. Chevonne Forgan and Sophia Kirkby brought home a bronze medal in women’s doubles with a total time of 1:29.119. Mueller expressed his happiness over the victory, emphasizing the importance of racing on familiar ground. The Sigulda World Cup will feature both singles and doubles events, providing another opportunity for the athletes to demonstrate their skills. The event will be live streamed on the International Luge Federation’s YouTube Channel.
