Join the Wasatch Camerata for free Christmas concerts in Park City and Heber City this weekend.
As the Christmas season approaches, the Wasatch Camerata chamber singers will present "Sing We Now of Christmas" with three free concerts this weekend. The concerts will take place on Saturday at 7 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Park City, and on Sunday at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Heber City. Last year, the concert at St. Lawrence saw a high turnout, leading the group to add an additional show this year. The Wasatch Camerata consists of 12 singers and one pianist, performing in coordinated attire. Their hour-long program features a mix of classical chamber music pieces and popular holiday songs, as well as homemade treats for attendees to enjoy after the performance. The concert will include pieces such as “Hodie Christus Natus Est,” a Gregorian chant, and traditional carols like “Maria Durch Ein Dornwald Ging,” alongside well-known songs such as “Jingle Bells,” “Silver Bells,” and “Silent Night.” The aim is to provide a blend of familiar and classical music to appeal to a wide audience. Lorraine Branham, the group’s founder, mentioned that the set lists are created using input from ensemble members, ensuring a variety of selections. The Wasatch Camerata performs three main concerts each year, with upcoming performances including "Evensong" in April. The organization is a qualified non-profit, receiving grants to help with costs such as song licensing and venue insurance. They also perform smaller sets at community events, including tree lightings and senior centers. Both St. Mary’s and St. Lawrence churches have excellent acoustics, making them ideal for this type of performance. More details can be found at WasatchCamerata.com.
