**STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colorado** — In an electrifying display of skill and determination, Park City’s own Troy Podmilsak triumphed at the Freeski Big Air World Cup event in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, marking his second consecutive victory. This exceptional performance has secured Podmilsak a coveted spot on Team USA for the upcoming 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics.
The 21-year-old freeskiing sensation demonstrated remarkable prowess, executing two standout tricks that captivated both the judges and spectators. In his first run, Podmilsak achieved a switch right triple cork 1980 safety, followed by an impressive right triple cork 1800 on his second attempt. These high-scoring maneuvers not only enthralled the crowd but also solidified his standing in a fiercely competitive atmosphere.
With a remarkable total score of 182.5 points, Podmilsak took home the gold medal, further establishing his status as one of the leading figures in the world of freeskiing. His teammate, Konnor Ralph, showcased commendable skill as well, finishing in second place and still vying for one of the remaining spots on the four-man Olympic team. Notably, reigning Olympic slopestyle champion Alex Hall had already secured his pre-qualified position earlier this season, adding to the excitement of the event.
Podmilsak’s journey to this achievement included a previous gold medal win at another World Cup event held earlier this season in Secret Garden, China, which set the stage for his stellar performances on the international front.
As he prepares for the Milan Cortina Games, Podmilsak plans to compete in both the big air and slopestyle events, ready to showcase his exceptional talent on the Olympic stage.
In the women's competition, 17-year-old Park City native Rell Harwood started strong with a stunning double cork 1260 in her first run. However, her day took a turn when she crashed hard while attempting a complex trick in her second run and unfortunately had to withdraw from the contest. Young rookie Avery Krumme managed to secure the highest placement for the U.S. women with a fourth-place finish, demonstrating her potential on the competitive landscape.
This World Cup event not only highlights the rising stars in freeskiing but also builds anticipation for the upcoming Olympics, where Podmilsak and his fellow athletes will look to achieve greatness on one of the world’s largest sporting stages.
