Stein Burger Trailer Launches Fast-Casual Dining at Deer Valley
Stein Burger, a new fast-casual dining option, opens at Deer Valley this winter, featuring a signature burger and more.

This winter, Stein Eriksen Lodge introduces a new dining option at Deer Valley Resort called Stein Burger. Executive Chef Zane Holmquist has been developing this concept over the last two decades, and it officially opens near the Viking Lift. The burger, a signature dish of the lodge, has been available for over 25 years and has become a staple for visitors.
The idea for a dedicated burger location stemmed from discussions within the food and beverage team about creating a casual dining venue. After Deer Valley Resort approached Holmquist to expand food options amid their largest season yet, the timing was perfect. They informed him that while the ski area was doubling its size, the dining facilities would not be proportional, leading Holmquist to propose the Stein Burger.
To bring this vision to life, Holmquist partnered with a builder in Ogden to design a custom food trailer and sourced an all-weather yurt from a Montana company. The trailer, adorned with Stein Burger branding, and the dining yurt are situated between Stein Eriksen Lodge and the Viking Lift, ensuring visibility for skiers.
Stein Burger aims to provide a fast-casual dining experience, distinct from the fine dining options in the lodge. The yurt accommodates around 40 guests and operates on a first-come, first-served basis, typically from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Central to the menu is the Stein Burger, crafted from high-quality beef sourced from Wasatch Meats. Holmquist emphasizes a straightforward approach to the burger, featuring a simple combination of ingredients, including a unique cheese blend and crispy fried onions. The menu also includes hand-cut French fries, a Caesar salad, and a signature wild-game chili made from buffalo, boar, and elk, seasoned with coffee and New Mexico chili powder.
Stein Burger complements the existing dining options at Stein Eriksen Lodge, providing a casual experience for skiers looking for a quick meal. Holmquist is optimistic about the venture's future, with possibilities for expansion or relocation based on guest feedback. The setup allows for adjustments before committing to a permanent establishment.
