SOUTH JORDAN, Utah – A significant car accident occurred on Saturday evening, resulting in three individuals, including a baby, being transported to the hospital. The incident took place around 5:45 p.m. when an SUV traveling north on 2700 West ran a red light at the intersection with 11400 South. This violation led to a collision with another SUV, followed by the first SUV crashing into two utility poles and a power box. The passenger seated in the front of the first SUV was ejected from the vehicle during the crash. Both the ejected passenger and the driver of this SUV sustained injuries that ranged from severe to critical and were immediately taken to the hospital for treatment. In the back seat of the first SUV, a 5-month-old child was present. Fortunately, the baby was reported to have only minor injuries and was taken to Primary Children's Hospital. Medical officials indicated that the child is currently in good condition. Authorities are investigating the actions of the driver of the first SUV, who allegedly ran the red light. There are also indications that this driver may have been under the influence of substances at the time of the accident. Speeding is another factor being considered in the investigation. The driver of the second vehicle involved in the collision suffered minor injuries but remained at the scene to provide information to police. The crash has also affected the local community; according to Rocky Mountain Power's website, around 700 customers experienced power outages due to the incident. The utility company has estimated that power restoration will occur by 10:30 p.m. the same evening. This accident highlights the importance of obeying traffic signals and the potential consequences of reckless driving. As the investigation continues, authorities will gather more information to determine the precise causes of this serious crash.
