Emmanuel Flores-Hernandez faces manslaughter charges after a deadly crash on Redwood Road that killed Lisa McGeary, 66. He was allegedly speeding at 107 mph.
In a tragic incident that has shocked the Riverton community, Emmanuel Flores-Hernandez, 31, has been charged with manslaughter following a fatal car crash on Redwood Road on November 18. The accident claimed the life of 66-year-old Lisa McGeary, who was trapped inside her vehicle after the collision. According to police reports, Flores-Hernandez was allegedly driving at an astonishing speed of 107 miles per hour, significantly exceeding the posted speed limit by 60 miles per hour, moments before the crash occurred.
The crash took place at approximately 3:30 p.m. on a Saturday, when officers responded to reports of a serious accident at 6600 South Redwood Road. Upon arrival, they discovered McGeary’s Acura MDX severely damaged, with the victim trapped in the driver's seat. Emergency responders worked quickly to extricate her, but she was pronounced dead at the scene. In addition to McGeary, a passenger in the Tesla, which Flores-Hernandez was driving, was found on the ground complaining of pain.
According to court documents, Flores-Hernandez initially refused to answer police questions but disclosed that he was in possession of a concealed firearm. While being transported to the hospital for medical evaluation, he informed medical staff about his history of nerve damage and that he uses THC for relief, although he did not clarify when he last used it prior to the crash.
Investigators retrieved data from the Tesla's onboard system, revealing alarming details about Flores-Hernandez's driving behavior. The data indicated that he had reached a speed of 107 miles per hour just seconds before the collision and was still traveling at 82 miles per hour at the moment of impact. Witnesses and passengers in the Tesla reported that Flores-Hernandez attempted to brake and swerve to avoid hitting McGeary’s vehicle, which they claimed had pulled out in front of them unexpectedly.
The investigation also uncovered a concerning amount of alcohol-related evidence inside the Tesla. Officers found unopened cans of beer, along with one opened can located under the passenger seat. Passengers in the vehicle claimed the alcohol had been purchased on a previous day and insisted they had not seen Flores-Hernandez consuming any drinks on the day of the crash.
In addition to the alcohol, law enforcement discovered a loaded Sig Sauer handgun in the center console of the Tesla, with a box of .45 Norma ammunition found in the glove compartment. A backpack in the vehicle contained a Ruger handgun, also loaded, along with THC packages, a vape cartridge, and other drug paraphernalia. When questioned, Flores-Hernandez confirmed ownership of the firearms, which raised further questions about their legality and his intentions.
The Ruger handgun was found to be registered to a different individual who reported it stolen after their vehicle had been taken in April. When contacted, the original owner explained that he had filed a police report after the theft, and though the vehicle was recovered in July, he was unaware that the firearm was missing. This connection has prompted additional inquiries into the chain of ownership and the circumstances surrounding the firearms.
Flores-Hernandez has been charged with multiple offenses, including manslaughter and providing alcohol to a minor. Currently, he remains in custody without bail as the case unfolds. If convicted, he faces serious repercussions that could include significant prison time and a permanent mark on his criminal record.
The death of Lisa McGeary has sent ripples through the Riverton community, sparking conversations about reckless driving and the dangers of high-speed collisions. Friends and family members of McGeary have expressed their grief and disbelief, emphasizing her role as a beloved community member and highlighting the need for increased awareness surrounding road safety.
As the investigation continues, local authorities are urging drivers to be mindful of speed limits and the potential consequences of reckless driving. With the tragic loss of life in this incident, the message is clear: speeding not only endangers the driver but also poses a grave risk to innocent lives on the road.
The next court appearance for Flores-Hernandez is scheduled for later this month, and community members are keeping a close watch on the proceedings, hoping for justice for McGeary and her family.
