Park City Lodging Rates: A Closer Look at the Data
Park City is not the most expensive ski town, contrary to reports. Local data reveals average rates follow a seasonal pattern.

Recent reports from Travel + Leisure indicated that Park City has been labeled the most expensive ski town in the United States, with average nightly lodging rates reportedly exceeding $1,600. However, local tourism officials assert that this figure does not accurately represent the reality of Park City’s lodging market. Dan Howard, vice president of communications for the Park City Chamber/Bureau, stated that the figures presented do not reflect the actual community's data. He expressed concern regarding the methodology employed by Travel + Leisure in producing their report. According to data sourced from Destimetrics, a lodging analytics platform, Park City’s average daily hotel rates have shown consistency over the last three years, following a seasonal pattern. This data indicates that while there are significant increases in rates during peak winter months, they do not surpass $970 a night. The Chamber/Bureau highlighted that February emerges as the peak month for lodging rates, averaging $915 per night over the past three years. During the winter season, rates typically rise to around $900 between December and March. Following the winter peak, rates significantly drop during the spring shoulder season and stabilize in the $300-$400 range during much of the summer and fall. The Park City Chamber of Commerce emphasized the variety of lodging options available in the town, ranging from family-friendly homes and hotels to luxury resorts. This comprehensive data contradicts the recent national headlines, suggesting a more nuanced understanding of the local lodging market. As such, the community continues to promote its diverse offerings for visitors throughout the year.
