Park City hosted its annual Seasonal Workforce Welcome Night at the Sheraton Park City, welcoming several hundred seasonal workers on Thursday evening. The event, held from 5 to 8 p.m., allowed seasonal employees to connect with local organizations and employers, providing food, giveaways, and essential resources as they adjust to the winter season. Tomás De la Valle, a returning seasonal worker from Argentina, expressed his appreciation for the community and the people he worked with last year, which motivated him to return. He described Park City as a relaxed environment with accessible nearby cities and events that enhance the winter experience. De la Valle is particularly excited to attend the Sundance Film Festival this season. The diverse crowd of seasonal workers included individuals from various countries, such as Argentina, Peru, Chile, Costa Rica, Spain, Guatemala, the Philippines, Malaysia, El Salvador, and Jamaica. Many attendees were returning workers who developed fondness for the town and their coworkers during previous seasons. However, some newcomers, like Deer Valley lift operators Mariana and Maria, noted challenges due to limited snow affecting lift operations. As workers settle in, local organizations, including the Park City Library, Park City Police Department, and various support services, provided information on available resources. This year's organizer, Meg Wandishin, emphasized the importance of having banks present to assist international staff in establishing U.S. bank accounts, facilitating timely payments. Mental health and bilingual support were highlighted by attendees, ensuring workers are aware of the resources available to them. Peace House staff, which offers advocacy for survivors of domestic violence, provided information about their 24/7 hotline, available in English and Spanish. The evening featured music and social opportunities, allowing workers to relax and engage with one another and community organizations. Wandishin noted that turnout exceeded last year's numbers, reflecting the community's commitment to supporting seasonal workers. Looking ahead, the Seasonal Workforce Welcome Night is set to return next year, with organizations encouraged to participate.
