The Park City Curling Club is set to begin its new season in January, offering various opportunities for participation.
PARK CITY, Utah — The Park City Ice Arena is the venue for various sports, but the Park City Curling Club stands out with its enthusiastic participants. The new curling season is set to begin in January, providing ample time for interested individuals to register before the start. Throughout the year, the club offers Learn-To-Curl clinics, although the December sessions are currently sold out. Registration for the February sessions remains open, with available slots for newcomers.
Cody Adams, a member of the club and a resident of Park City for five years, participates in league play and shares his experience. Originally from California, Adams has embraced curling despite his non-traditional background for the sport. He works on the ice at the bobsled, skeleton, and luge track at the Utah Olympic Park, which he feels gives him an advantage in curling.
Adams emphasizes the camaraderie among team members and the accessibility of curling, stating that enjoyment is key regardless of skill level. He was introduced to the club by a friend who offered lessons, leading him to join last season.
The curling season spans January, February, and March and is recognized as a cost-effective winter sport, ideal for meeting new people and forming friendships. The league features a balanced mix of male and female participants, and Adams notes that he might be one of the youngest members at age 27.
Excitingly, a new curling sheet has been established at the Black Rock Resort Ice Arena, expanding the local opportunities for curling enthusiasts. The Park City Curling Club also organizes corporate and private events, providing venues, trained instructors, and necessary equipment for participants. Teams that form for league play have the opportunity to choose unique names, adding an element of fun to the competition. Current team names include Curl's for the Girls, The Button Bitters, Hack In Black, The Canine Curlers, The Rebel Rockers, and The Ice Otters.
