Kurt Bestor, an Emmy Award-winning composer, will return to the Egyptian Theatre for his annual holiday concert from December 23 to 25. This event has become a cherished tradition for many Utah residents and visitors over the past 28 years, with Bestor performing at this venue for 15 years. Bestor is well-known for his compositions for television and film, including the theme for NFL Monday Night Football and music for the 1988 Winter Olympics. He comes from a musical family, with a rich heritage of musicians, including his great uncle who played trombone in Jack Benny’s band and wrote famous jingles. His family's influence helped shape his passion for music, particularly after a pivotal moment with his mother, who encouraged him to compose. His music career began in high school and took off when he played trumpet for the Osmonds. He eventually composed music for various projects, from documentaries to video games. In 1988, he released his first Christmas album, which became a best-seller despite initial skepticism, leading to the establishment of his holiday concert tradition. The upcoming concert will feature innovative arrangements of classic holiday tunes, drawing from his extensive five-CD boxed set, “The Complete Kurt Bestor Christmas.” Bestor aims to create emotional experiences through his music, likening his performances to painting pictures that evoke feelings of warmth and nostalgia during the holiday season. Bestor's performances are characterized by his engaging storytelling and intimate atmosphere, allowing attendees to feel connected to the music. His musicianship spans various genres, including classical, jazz, and pop, making his concerts a diverse experience.
