PARK CITY, Utah — The Freestyle World Cup events originally set for Deer Valley Resort in mid-January will now take place at new venues on the East Coast. This change comes as a result of unseasonably warm weather leading to limited snow conditions, as announced by U.S. Ski & Snowboard on Tuesday. The aerials World Cup will be hosted alongside the Stifel Lake Placid Freestyle Cup in Lake Placid, New York, on January 11-12, 2026. Instead of the previously planned team competition, two individual aerials events will be held. Additionally, the moguls and dual moguls events are set to move to Waterville Valley Resort in New Hampshire on January 15-16. The adjustments are made to ensure that athletes have adequate opportunities for Olympic qualification in this Olympic year. Officials emphasized the importance of maintaining these qualification opportunities despite the challenges posed by this year's weather. Deer Valley President and COO Todd Bennett noted that the combination of sustained warm temperatures and an earlier-than-usual event date has made it impossible to construct the necessary competition venues. Bennett confirmed that the resort is committed to hosting World Cup competitions and will return as a venue next season. Ticket holders for the events will be contacted directly regarding refunds. The decision to relocate the events underscores the impact of weather on winter sports and the need for adaptability in planning such significant competitions.
