SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - In an exciting finish, Clayton Keller scored just 13 seconds into overtime, leading the Utah Mammoth to a 4-3 victory over the Winnipeg Jets on Sunday. This win marked the Mammoth's second victory in their last three games. Other contributors to Utah's scoring included Lawson Crouse, JJ Peterka, and Alexander Kerfoot, while Karel Vejmelka made 22 saves throughout the match.
The Jets struggled, suffering their fourth consecutive loss, bringing their record to 0-2-2 in recent games. Their performance has seen them secure only three wins in their last 16 games, with a record of 3-10-3. Kyle Connor was a standout for Winnipeg, netting two goals in the match, while Morgan Barron added another.
The Mammoth established an early lead with Crouse scoring at 5:20 into the first period, firing the puck over Jets goalie Connor Hellebuyck's shoulder. Peterka extended the Mammoth's lead at 9:31, redirecting a pass from Keller into the net for his 14th goal of the season. Kerfoot increased the Mammoth's advantage to 3-0 with a powerful one-timer at 3:01 of the second period, marking his first goal of the season after returning from injury.
Winnipeg managed to respond when Connor found the net during a power play at 8:42 of the second period. He then added another goal with a one-timer at 4:37 in the third, narrowing the Mammoth's lead to just one goal. Barron equalized for Winnipeg just 25 seconds later, sneaking behind Utah's defense and beating Vejmelka on the glove side.
