PARK CITY, Utah — Applications are now open for residents of Park City to fill a vacancy on the Park City Council following the resignation of Councilmember Ryan Dickey. Dickey recently won the mayoral election by a narrow margin of seven votes. The application period began on Friday, December 19, and will remain open until Monday, January 5, at 5 p.m. To be eligible for consideration, applicants must be registered voters in Park City and have resided within the city limits for at least the past 12 consecutive months. They must also maintain a primary residence within the city throughout the duration of their term. Once the application period closes, the city council will conduct interviews with all qualified candidates in open public meetings, as outlined by city staff. A special public meeting is scheduled for January 9, 2026, to facilitate these interviews. If additional time is needed, a second meeting may be held on January 13 to complete the interview process. After the interviews are concluded, the Park City Council will publicly appoint a candidate to fill the remainder of the vacant term, which is set to last until the first Monday in January 2028. This appointment may take place during the council's regular meeting on January 15, starting at 5:30 p.m. All meetings will be held in the City Council Chambers to ensure public access. According to Utah state law, city councils are mandated to fill midterm vacancies within 30 calendar days. They are also required to provide at least 14 days of public notice prior to interviewing candidates and making an appointment. Interested residents who wish to apply must complete an online application and submit a conflict of interest disclosure. For more information and access to application materials, residents can visit the official Park City government website.
