Growing up in Utah, my sisters and I celebrated Christmas with a cherished tradition. Each Christmas Eve, we would put on our new Christmas pajamas, a special treat that built our excitement for the holiday. After changing into our festive sleepwear, we would gather for a group photo on the stairs of our home. This moment captured our joyful anticipation, and it became a ritual that marked the beginning of our Christmas celebrations. Following the photo, we would head to my oldest sister's basement bedroom for a slumber party. This was a time filled with laughter and bonding, as we shared stories, played games, and enjoyed each other's company. The cozy atmosphere of the basement, combined with the warmth of our pajamas, made it the perfect place to create lasting memories. As we settled in for the night, we often exchanged small gifts. These presents, while usually modest, were filled with thoughtfulness and love. Each gift represented our understanding of each other's interests and preferences, making the exchange a heartfelt experience. The excitement of unwrapping our gifts added to the festive spirit of the occasion. In addition to pajamas and presents, poetry also played a role in our Christmas Eve tradition. We would often take turns reciting poems we had written or those we enjoyed. This added a creative touch to our gathering and allowed us to express our feelings about the holiday season. Sharing poetry fostered a deeper connection among us, enhancing the overall experience. Looking back, those cozy Christmas Eves spent in pajamas, surrounded by my sisters, are cherished memories. They encapsulated the joy of family, the spirit of giving, and the warmth of togetherness, making each holiday season a special occasion. As we continue to celebrate Christmas, the essence of those traditions remains in our hearts.
